What is Ear Reflexology?

ree

Did you know that snakes lack a middle ear and 'hear' by sensing the vibrations in the ground? Now that I have your attention, lets talk about ears!

Ear reflexology is the most recent development in reflexology and came from acupuncture of the ear. Ear reflexology is the study of touching the ear, using specific techniques to stimulate the reflex areas that correspond to all parts of the body; this includes glands and organs. When these points are stimulated it affects the functioning of the body, by shifting the body so that homeostasis can occur.

There are advantages to ear reflexology as compared to the feet and hands; ears are not often ticklish or smelly!  Ears are more accessible than feet as well. Ear reflexology is known to be more effective in clients to reduce pain, lessen headaches and migraines, relieve depression and stress and anxiety. There may be a quicker sedative response in the recipient and deep relaxation often occurs very quickly. One explanation for this is that the ears are positioned closer to the brain. If ear reflexology is done in addition to the feet and hands, there may be a longer relaxation effect as well.

When a practitioner does an ear reflexology session, they will position themselves behind you and work on both ears at once. You will be laying on a massage table listening to music and achieving a deep state of relaxation! The reflexology points on the ear are as small as pinpoints so the practitioner will move very slowly to work all the points. The session is approximately 30 mins long, done on its own or you may prefer to enjoy a combo session. At no point does the practitioner touch inside the ear canal, only the outside. The practitioner will follow a routine that covers all points in the ear.

The Petalroot clinic offers ear reflexology as a solo treatment or as a combo with reiki or hand/ foot reflexology. Ear reflexology is an exciting modality that is rare; book a session and try it out for yourself! Click the button below to find out more or to book.
